Sony has finally revealed the design of its next-generation PlayStation VR 2. Sony announced it in February 2021, showed off the controller design last March, and confirmed in January this year that it would be called PlayStation VR2. The new design features a similar design of PlayStation 5 with a similar white and black color scheme.
PlayStation VR2: Sony unveils second-generation virtual reality glasses
Sony is showing us what its second generation of virtual reality glasses looks like, which when combined with PlayStation 5 consoles will bring to life a new generation of games that are carried by a fully immersive experience.
Highlights include haptic feedback, which is also available on the DualSense controller. The PlayStation VR2 lenses now support 4K resolution with HDR technology, as well as frame rates of up to 120Hz.
Sony seems to have taken the original PSVR design but made it lighter so it’s much more comfortable to use, especially during long gaming sessions. How does it connect to the PlayStation 5? Via a USB-C cable.
Our goal is to create a pair of glasses that are not only an attractive part of your living room decor, but also immerse you in your gaming world so that you almost forget you’re wearing glasses or using a controller. That’s why we’ve paid a lot of attention to the ergonomics of the PSVR2 and done extensive testing to make sure it feels comfortable for a wide range of head sizes. We’ve already received a lot of positive feedback on the ergonomics of the first PSVR headset, as we carefully balanced the weight of the headset and had a simple adjustable headband, so we’ve kept the same concept for the PSVR2 headset. Other features, like the adjustable viewfinder that moves the viewfinder area closer to or further away from the face, and the position of the stereo headphone jack, are also the same, so players will be familiar with them.”

The PSVR1 was launched 6 years ago with the idea of capturing the market in virtual reality, which was just beginning at the time. In 2022, we can’t say that VR gaming is having a great time, but Sony is confident that these glasses will give a boost to more and more games that use the technology.
For now, Sony has declined to confirm when the PlayStation VR2 will be released and at what price.
