Snapdragon 710 SoC will be 20% faster than Snapdragon 660

The Snapdragon 660 was the star chip in the mid-range range, but the technology is advancing too fast, and now Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 chip (which targets the entry-level sector) is outperforming it not only in performance but also in power efficiency.

Snapdragon 710 to be used on low-mid range smartphones

Previously, the Snapdragon 660 was hailed as the best chipset in the mid-range spectrum but has been dethroned by the latest 10nm FinFET SoC. There is a significant level of difference between the Snapdragon 710 and the Snapdragon 660, which will be discussed below.

Importantly, because the Snapdragon 710 is made with 10nm LPP, its efficiency metrics will be much higher compared to the Snapdragon 660’s 14nm FinFET LPP. The new Snapdragon 710 includes custom Kryo cores, with a configuration of 2 x Kryo 360 at 2.20 GHz + 6 x Kryo 360 at 1.70 GHz, while the Snapdragon 660 has a configuration of 8 x Kryo 260 at 2.20 GHz.

For the GPU, the new SoC will use the Adreno 616, which will replace the Adreno 512, which will deliver 35% more graphics performance. The energy efficiency achieved is 40% compared to the 660 chip model.

One of the biggest benefits will also come from the AI side. Qualcomm says it will deliver twice the performance in applications that use AI, such as facial recognition (for example).

As a result, the Snapdragon 710 will be 20% faster than the Snapdragon 660. We can’t wait to see the new low-end phones with this chip.
