Seagate announces a new capacity for SkyHawk AI hard drive. The unit is now available in an 18TB version.
The SkyHawk AI family targets the surveillance market with a mechanism designed to meet certain constraints. The manufacturer is reminiscent of a hard drive designed for video recording in an AI surveillance network. It benefits from ImagePerfect firmware and the SkyHawk health management application.
With the arrival of this 18 TB capacity, it will be possible to store more data over time. As a result, this amount of information improves the performance of deep learning systems. They become smarter and more accurate in their predictive analysis, as more data needs to be analyzed.
This SkyHawk AI hard drive supports 32 AI streams along with 64 HD video streams. It promises a workload of 550 TB per year – three times more than a conventional hard drive. The average time between failures is 2 million hours. It is equipped with rotational vibration sensors.
The machine is available under the reference ST18000VE002 It uses a classic SATA connection with 6 Gbit/s and has a 256 Mb cache. We are in the presence of a hard disk with a helium enclosure with CMR recording technology. It can offer a maximum transfer rate of 260 MB/s. On the issue of reliability, Seagate announces 300,000 loads/unload cycles and 8760 hours of operation per year.
The drive comes with a 3-year warranty and Rescue Data Recovery Services (3 years). The SkyHawk AI 18 TB is available immediately at a suggested retail price of $510.85.
