Samsung Odyssey OLED G6, G8 and G9: 360 Hz and 0.03 ms

Samsung presents at CES 2024 its new range Odyssey OLED G6, G8, and G9, leaving out the QD-OLED bet for now.

The Koreans want to surprise us with 3 very different ranges, although with the same pillars: OLED. We will have flat monitors with 16:9 aspect ratios, while the G9 will be the only ultrawide monitor presented. It looks like it will be 49 inches and its resolution will be the famous DQHD, the 5K we see today.

Attracting sales because the others will go above 1000 euros without blinking, although this could be a great option for many. The Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD) would have a QHD resolution (1440p), with a refresh rate of 360 Hz and a response time of 0.03 ms according to GtG.

There is no curved panel, but it would compete with the famous LG 27GR95QE-B, a monitor that usually positions itself below 900 euros. Samsung wants to take sales away from LG with the technology that has made it rise so much in recent years.

It is worth mentioning that the panels seem to be matte with “Glare-Free” technology: eliminating reflections at all costs. It comes with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support and DisplayHDR True Black 400.

It will have DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 ports, and a USB hub.

This new monitor is presented as a Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD), a peripheral that offers a 4K resolution, a 240 Hz refresh rate, and a 0.03 ms response time. All this on a 16:9 flat panel, which seems like a novelty considering the ultrawide trend of recent years.

Like the rest, it will come with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and DisplayHDR True Black 400, as well as the same ports.

Few brands face Samsung when it comes to offering the best, and they have presented the Odyssey OLED G9 with 49 inches, a DQHD resolution (5120 x 1440), and a 32:9 aspect ratio.

They have not published aspects such as refresh rate or response time, but it will offer Multi Control along with the OLED G8 and little else. I understand that it must have more than 100 Hz and 1 ms, but you know that this will take time to land.

What about QD-OLED?

The QD-OLED was Samsung’s big bet, and the big presentation was at CES 2024, but it seems that Samsung has opted for OLED (WOLED). Perhaps it is not as profitable to present and launch monitors with this panel, different from what happens with TVs.
