Samsung leads the global DRAM market with a 44.1 % share

Samsung continued to dominate the global DRAM market in the first quarter of 2020, despite the decline in sales resulting from the COVID 19 pandemic. Compared to the previous quarter, the overall market declined by 4.6 percent to $14.8 billion.

Samsung has a 44.1 percent share of the global DRAM market, 0.6 percentage points more than a quarter earlier. At the same time, Samsung’s revenues declined 3.3% to $6.5 billion in the quarter.

SK Hynix ranks second with a 29.3% market share, 0.1 percentage points more than in the fourth quarter of 2019, while SK Hynix’s revenues declined 4.3% to $4.3 billion in the quarter.

Micron Technology is in third place with a market share of 20.8%, 1.5 percentage points less than in the fourth quarter of 2019, as Micron’s quarterly sales declined by 11.1% to $3 billion.

As manufacturers have not made any major changes to their DRAM production plans for this year, TrendForce experts expect their market share to remain virtually unchanged this quarter.
