The Korean manufacturer’s first 5G model will be available before mid-2019. Currently equipped with Qualcomm components and only announced in the USA, it should be available in the rest of the world by embedding Samsung’s Exynos chip.
Samsung is the first major manufacturer to showcase the new technology products. The Korean brand has just announced the launch of its first 5G smartphone in the first half of 2019 with American operator Verizon. The announcement was made at Qualcomm’s Technology Summit as we speak in Maui, Hawaii.
In fact, the smartphone in question will use the Snapdragon 855 platform, which is equipped with the 5G X50 modem. Historically, Galaxy S in the United States are more likely to be equipped with Qualcomm SoCs than Samsung Exynos chips. This announcement therefore only affects this country.
A 5G version of the Galaxy S10?
Verizon began building its 5G network last October in Houston, Texas, Indianapolis, Indiana, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California. From early 2019, the operator will expand its 5G network to the entire United States.
This version of the smartphone will therefore only be available in the United States. However, this does not mean that a 5G model will not be available in the rest of the world at the same time. In mid-November, Samsung also launched its own Exynos 9820 SoC, which is also equipped with a 5G modem.
These ads correspond to the information in the Wall Street Journal. The American business paper reported a few days ago that a fourth very high-quality version of the Galaxy S10 would be equipped with a 5G modem. While the first three models – all 4G – would be launched in February 2019, this version, internally called “Beyond X”, would not be released until the following spring.
