Samsung Exynos with AMD RDNA 2 GPU planned for July, which will outperform Mali

Samsung and AMD are currently collaborating on upcoming Exynos chips to incorporate RDNA 2-based graphics, giving the Korean company a big advantage in developing phones with improved performance for gaming and other tasks.

Samsung Exynos with AMD RDNA 2 GPU to be announced in July

AMD’s next-generation Exynos chip with RDNA 2 graphics was supposed to be announced this month but has apparently been delayed until July, according to a leak on Twitter.

Lisa Su spoke at Computex about the implementation of RDNA 2 graphics in Samsung’s upcoming Exynos SoCs and confirmed that it will be present in the company’s high-end devices.

The implementation of RDNA 2 graphics, in addition to a big improvement in 3D acceleration, will add two technologies that are not present in any other competing SoC chip. We are talking about ray tracing and variable rate shading technology. The latter could make all the difference by improving the frame rate of games for a small loss in image sharpness.

An Exynos SoC based on the RDNA 2 could be the first to launch in all markets if it proves its better graphics performance. Currently, Samsung uses either Exynos or Snapdragon chips depending on the region, but with the launch of the new chips with RDNA 2, the launch would be global for all markets, which makes sense since Snapdragon has nothing equivalent to what AMD offers in terms of graphics.

It is speculated that the next generation of high-end Samsung Galaxy S phones could already be equipped with these SoC chips. According to previous revelations, this chip will be called Exynos 2200 and will not only be used in cell phones but Samsung’s ARM Win10 notebooks will also be equipped with it. Sources point out that the CPU performance of the Exynos 2200 is 25% higher than that of the Exynos 2100, the GPU performance increased by 150%, even compared to the Apple A14, the graphics performance crush doubled.

We can’t wait to see how the upcoming Exynos chips with AMD RDNA 2 graphics will perform, which could mean a before and after in the mobile device space.
