Samsung Electronics is expanding the NAND flash production line at Campus 2 in Pyeongtaek

Samsung Electronics is investing in the construction of a NAND flash production facility on the second line of the Pyeongtaek campus.

Samsung Electronics announced in a press release that it started construction of a dedicated NAND flash manufacturing plant on the second line of the Pyeongtaek campus last month and plans to start mass production in the second half of 2021.

The investment is intended to respond to the emergence of the 4th industrial revolution such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) and to increase the medium to long-term NAND demand for the 5G offering. In particular, as this trend is expected to be further accelerated by the recent expansion of the “contactless” lifestyle caused by Corona 19, Samsung Electronics plans to anticipate future market opportunities through active investment.

The Pyeongtaek campus, built-in 2015, is Samsung Electronics’ next-generation memory outpost, and two of the world’s largest production lines have been built. The line expanded by this investment will mass-produce Samsung Electronics’ state-of-the-art V NAND products.

Samsung Electronics was No. 1 in the NAND flash market in 2002 and has maintained its position as a global leader with unrivaled manufacturing and technology competitiveness for more than 18 years.

“This investment is an attempt to further expand the memory gap even in an uncertain environment,” said Choi Cheol, vice president of strategic marketing for the Memory Division of Samsung Electronics. Said.

Samsung Electronics operates a NAND flash production line in Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek in Korea and in Xi’an, China, and will maintain a stable global supply chain and strengthen its market leadership through balanced domestic and foreign investments.
