Because of the high density of QLC memory chips, Samsung was able to easily launch an SSD 860 QVO with a total capacity of 8TB, we’ll tell you all the details in this article.
Samsung has introduced its Samsung 860 QVO series to the world and offers affordable 1-4TB SSDs for the masses through the use of 4-bit QLC NAND memories. These early QLC drives show impressive performance data, which is good news for those who want large amounts of SSD memory at a relatively low cost. While the 1-4TB offerings are impressive, Samsung is able to deliver larger units in the future, PCPER has discovered that the PCB of Samsung’s 4TB 860 QVO model has two free flash positions, so we may see a future 8TB version of this device.
Samsung has not yet announced an 8TB version of its 860 QVO, although the space on the board for four NAND QLC flash memory packs shows that an 8TB version is quite possible. With the 860 QVO drive series, Samsung wants to operate SSDs as a mass storage option for consumers that offer higher performance and lower noise levels than mechanical hard drives.
SSDs are expected to become even more affordable from 2019, and prices for NAND storage are expected to decline as supply increases and QLC NAND chip manufacturing yields improve. Samsung’s 860 QVO series SSDs will be launched in mid-December, with prices for the 1TB model around 136.99 euros.
