Ryzen 7000 desktop processor will feature core graphics: RDNA 2 architecture, 4CU 1.1GHz

According to tipster KOMACHI_ENSAKA, AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors have the latest RDNA 2 architecture for cores, with 4 CU, or 256 stream processors, at just 1.1GHz and single-precision compute performance of about 0.5 TFLOPs. for comparison, AMD’s just-announced Ryzen 6000 mobile processors come with up to 12CUs at up to 2.4GHz.

So far, the only Ryzen desktop processors with iGPUs have been the G-series chips, but that’s expected to change with the introduction of Zen 4 processors later this year. For now, details are scarce, but the rumors and leaks have already started.

By now, you should know that AMD plans to launch the first Zen 4-based processors in the second half of 2022. We’re guessing it’s the Ryzen 7000, which will reportedly feature RDNA 2 iGPUs, but so far AMD hasn’t said anything.

However, there are rumors about the specs of this iGPU. The latest report talks about 2 x workgroup processors (WGP)/4 x compute units (CU) with 1100 MHz clock speed, but the originator of this information, Komachi Ensaka, points out that this is just a guess. However, if it turns out to be true, we assume that it will have 256x stream processors.

According to these specifications, the Ryzen 7000-series iGPU would offer a theoretical performance of over 0.55 TFLOP, which is a significant improvement over Vega-based solutions. Compared to other iGPU solutions today, that’s about a third of the performance of Steam Deck graphics.

Despite its power, the Ryzen 7000 series iGPU is primarily used as a display engine for basic tasks, but imagine what a few more cores would do. We expect the same from the mobile Ryzen 7000 chips, which are expected to be much more powerful when it comes to video.

The Ryzen 7000 series is expected to be released later this year, in the second half of 2022 according to AMD. The new processors, based on the 5nm process node, will use the new LGA1718/AM5 socket, replacing the AM4 socket’s PGA design. In addition, the new platform will support PCIe 5.0 connectivity and DDR5 memory.
