RTX 3050 is to receive GA107 variant with 115W TDP

Nvidia might be preparing a new variant of the recently introduced RTX 3050 low-end graphics card.

RTX 3050 should get a GA107 variant with 115W TDP

Nvidia’s RTX 3050 graphics card was unveiled in January and is the most modest variant of the RTX 30 series. According to Igor Wallossek, this model might have another variant with a different GPU.

As we know, the RTX 3050 is based on the trimmed-down GA106 silicon. The full GPU is used by the RTX 3060 with 3584 CUDA cores, but for the 3050 Nvidia decided to use up to 2560 CUDA cores.

The new model that has reportedly been spotted will use the same number of cores, in fact, the specs would be exactly the same with only one difference being the power consumption.

The RTX 3050 has 2,560 CUDA cores, 80 texture units, 32 ROPs, and 20 RT cores. This would remain the same for the GA106-150 and the new GA107, only the power consumption would drop from 130W to 115W.

Therefore, it is possible that manufacturers would not have to make any design changes to use this chip. So we would find similar graphics cards and only know which chip is included after buying the graphics card and checking it with a tool like GPU-Z.

Of course, the GA107 variant would be better because of its lower power consumption, which could give it a better overclocking margin.

Igor hasn’t confirmed when Nvidia will start selling this new variant of the RTX 3050, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information as it becomes available.

This new variant is in the works for Nvidia to replace the GTX 1660 Ti/Super, with similar performance but with support for ray tracing and DLSS technologies.

In terms of specs, TechPowerUp says the RTX 3050 4 GB features an 8 nm GA107-140-KA-A1 GPU with 2304 stream processors, 72 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs with 14 Gbps 4 GB 128bit GDDR6 memory and a GPU that runs at 1545 MHz and can be boosted to 1740 MHz. The RTX 3050 4 GB is powered via a 6 pin power connector and has a maximum power rating of 90 W. Display output ports include 1x HDMI, 3x DisplayPort, and a launch price of $199 (about $1269.62) according to the media.
