It is not the first time that we have read rumors about the possibility that Apple will include 18W chargers with upcoming iPhone devices. However, the message is that the compatibility of third-party fast loaders may be limited by the company.
Fast chargers for the iPhone, but not just any
Next September Apple is expected to introduce the next generation of iPhone devices, possibly up to three different models, but all based on the design of the current iPhone X, including the notch. These rumors also suggest that Apple will install a faster 18W power supply with the new terminals, but the compatibility of quick chargers from other manufacturers may not be absolute.
Quick chargers may need a USB-C check to be fully functional with the upcoming iPhone.
According to the Japanese blog Mac Otakara, which always refers to information from Apple suppliers, third-party quick chargers may need a USB-C [PDF] authentication certificate to download the new set of iPhones at the fastest possible speed. Otherwise, these upcoming iPhones may display a warning and limit the charging speed to a maximum of 2.5W.
USB-C authentication is designed to protect against USB chargers that do not meet the requirements of the devices and minimize the potential risk that the terminal is affected by malware on USB devices. This would, therefore, be an additional security measure from Apple, which does not mean that there are no fully compatible third-party quick chargers, provided they meet the required standards.
In fact, Apple is one of more than 1,000 member companies of the USB Implementers Forum, so USB-compatible quick chargers will be available in a variety of brands. However, before you buy any quick shipper, it may be a good idea to check the list and see if the company making it is a member of that organization.
