Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1200 FOR IoT, TRACKERS & Home Automation Systems

QUALCOMM introduces SNAPDRAGON WEAR 1200.  SNAPDRAGON WEAR 1200 is specially designed for IoT. Apparently, the Snapdragon 450 is not the only SoC by Qualcomm at MWC in Shanghai: the company of San Diego has also introduced a new Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform to wearables. The Snapdragon Wear 1200 Platform has everything on board for tracking and connectivity.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1200 Features

The new platform Snapdragon Wear 1200 is for low-end devices that always need to keep on. So the target application of this processor is wearable devices and the Internet of Things. The SoC has a base in a production process of 28nm. And this processor comprises ARM Cortex-A7 1.3GHz. And there is support for the new LTE IoT (Cat M1 and NB1) standard.

However, it does not have the same speed of the 4G-LTE smartphone. But it can have a download speed of up to 300 kbps with very little power consumption. And, according to Qualcomm, a wearable (always connected) with 350 mAh battery should keep it on for full ten days with full functionality working hours including standby time. Other features include support for GPS and GNONASS, Beidou, Galileo, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and RTOS and Linux operating systems.

Tracking Systems and Home Automation Systems

Qualcomm works with OEMs such as Quanta and Borqs to develop reference designs for devices. That can be worn by children, older adults, and pets. And for this reason, the new Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform capabilities especially relates to the geolocation tracking systems. So, activating the alarms when the subject (which can be your dog or your loved one) moves away from the area. We remind you that the new SoC joins the existing Snapdragon 1100 Wear and Wear in 2100. Both of these comes with more powerful processors. They also support faster LTE networks but also with greater energy consumption.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1200 probably will get into the smartwatch with Android Wear, but we will see it in fitness tracker and devices for home automation. Thanks to its small size (measuring half the predecessor) and its advanced connectivity there are many areas in which we can utilize this SoC. The platform is available now for shipping. Here a complete overview of its technical specifications.
