Qualcomm today announced the new Quick Charge 5 standard, a new technology that offers to charge speeds of 100W in line with market trends.
Qualcomm has played an important role when we have seen several Chinese brands introduce their Quick Charge technology at 100W or faster. Contrary to what was initially claimed, any smartphone can take advantage of this technology.
“Quick Charge 5 is our fastest and most versatile charging solution and will allow consumers to enjoy their devices for longer without worrying about charging time. We are proud to expand our technology portfolio and make 100W+ charging a commercial reality”. Ev Roach, vice president of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, said:”. We are working closely with manufacturers to develop industry-leading devices that meet consumer demand for an increasingly rich and smooth mobile experience.
Qualcomm promises to charge the battery by 50 percent in less than 5 minutes
The main attraction of the new Quick Charge 5 is, without doubt, its recharge time. Qualcomm says it can charge half the battery in just 5 minutes while charging the entire battery in just 15 minutes.
On a more technical note, Qualcomm says its new Quick Charge standard is 70 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 4 and charges four times faster. What’s more, it can achieve these figures with the coolest 10C batteries.
There’s no doubt that these are impressive figures that will please all users who use the technology. After all, everyone wants to be plugged into an electrical outlet for the shortest possible time.
However, these charging speeds will seriously damage the smartphone’s battery. The higher the charging speed of the battery, the more wear and tear it will suffer.
When will the technology be available?
The first smartphones that take advantage of this technology will be on the market during the third quarter of this year. Of course, this is a case where the brand wants to use Qualcomm’s standard.
As more and more companies develop their Quick Charge technology, there may not be many brands with Quick Charge 5 on board, of course, all Android manufacturers can use the technology now.
