Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 888 Plus, a new version of its most powerful processor. This chip shares many elements with the original but offers better CPU performance and an artificial intelligence engine. This processor is primarily intended for gaming-oriented Android phones.
Snapdragon 888 Plus: The new chip from Qualcomm
The Kryo 680 CPU has been improved and now has a total of 8 cores with a maximum of 2.995 GHz, which is a significant improvement over the predecessor. However, it retains the RAM limit of 16GB at 3200MHz from the original.
The Snapdragon 888 Plus improves the artificial intelligence engine. It uses the same Hexagon chip we saw in the predecessor, but the processor’s performance on artificial intelligence tasks is 20% better. This is a big improvement and, according to Qualcomm, has the ability to perform up to 32 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
The rest of this processor’s specs don’t change from the 888, which was officially unveiled last December. It retains 5G connectivity as standard in it, as well as support for camera sensors of up to 200 Mpx. Where there are improvements is in latency, with a 20% improvement according to the company itself.
It is expected that in the third quarter of this year we will officially see the first phones with Snapdragon 888 Plus. Brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Honor, Asus, or Vivo will use it, as Qualcomm confirmed during the presentation of the processor. So we will soon be seeing the phones which use this processor.
