Qualcomm today unveiled a new series of 5G antenna modules for mobile phones, opening the door to a new mobile experience.
The first commercial announcement today is the first 5G NR mmWave antenna modules and sub-6 GHz RF modules for smartphones and other mobile devices and represents an important milestone for the mobile industry.
Acknowledging the limitations of working with mmWave, since they have to overcome different challenges at all levels when deploying it to networks and mobile devices, So they have designed a strategy to improve its reliability.
As detailed in their press release, the new antenna modules take advantage of the potential of the 5G Snapdragon X50 modem, working together as an integrated system, improving the characteristics of mmWave signals.
A benefit that stands out is that the modules are extremely compact, making the work easier for mobile device manufacturers, as they will not interfere with the type of design being developed. In other words, manufacturers will be able to offer the combination of an attractive and compact design with the benefits of the 5G.
Qualcomm is already shipping the first samples of its QTM052 and QPM56xx modules to its partners, along with consultancy, to make this new experience in the telephony networks a reality. According to their estimates, manufacturers could offer mobile devices with these features from next year…
