QNAP launches its new NAS TS-251B with 4K capacity and PCIe expansion

The well-known manufacturer of NAS, QNAP Systems, has launched a new model for home users that is suitable for multimedia resolutions up to 4K.

The new NAS is powered by an Intel J3355 dual-core 2.0GHz processor with up to 2.5 turbos and features 4K transcoding and streaming between different devices.

It is also the first QNAP NAS with a PCIe slot that extends its functionality. For example, you can add QNAP QM2 cards to add the cache for an M.2 SSD and 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection or other features such as compatible WiFi modules, USB 3.1 Gen2 cards, etc.

The TS-251B is QNAP’s first home NAS with a PCIe slot that allows users to add additional features to meet their needs. You can add SSD caching and 10GbE connectivity [….] to improve system performance while securing your future for 10GbE network environments [….] TS-251B also provides 4K transcoding and 4K-compatible HDMI output for a complete home multimedia experience for users.

“The TS-251B App Center offers a variety of productivity tools: Qsirch for fast file search, IFTTT for automation, Qsync for simplified file sharing and streaming tools such as Cinema28, QVHelper, Qmedia or HD video. A remote control can also be purchased separately.”

The following models are available in particular:

  • TS-251B-2G: Intel Celeron J3355, 2.0 GHz dual core (turbo to 2.5 GHz) with 2GB RAM (1 x 2GB)
  • TS-251B-4G: Intel Celeron J3355 2.0 GHz Dual-Core (Turbo up to 2.5 GHz) with 4GB RAM (1 x 4GB)The ports and connectors are two DDR3L SO-DIMM memory slots, expandable to 8GB, removable slot at the moment of SATA 2.5/3.5 hard drives (SSDs and HDDs), 1 Gen2 x2 PCIe slot, 1 Gigabit LAN port, 1 HDMI 1.4b to 4k UHD, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB copy button, 1 speaker, 2 3.5mm jacks for dynamic microphones and 1 3.5mm jack for audio output.
