PS5: Sony patents for physically multiplayer control of single character

With each new console, there’s a lot of new stuff involved, and Sony won’t be deviating from that rule, which is reflected in the Japanese company’s new patent.

PS5: DUALSHOCK 5 in action

The PlayStation 5 will be equipped with a new controller, the DualShock 5. No wonder we’re discovering new sharing features in this new patent, but above all a new way to play multiplayer.

One character can be controlled by several people, as shown in the patent diagrams. Each person controls the joysticks, the other controls the action keys and the other controls the last triggers. For example, in a fighting game, the first will move the character, the second will attack and the last will try to block the punches. We wonder what would happen with the next Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Importantly, we can turn a single-player game into a multiplayer game. As far as the allocation of actions is concerned, it is the host who defines the role of each action. However, in order not to make people jealous, it will be possible to activate the automatic rotation of the players, i.e. the orders will be reallocated for a certain time.

At the end of the patent, we can also see that a classic player will be able to connect to a VR player via the console’s headset on his TV screen.

All these features have not yet been officially announced, so it will be necessary to wait for Sony’s full presentation of the console. Rumour has it that this will happen at the PlayStation Meeting 2020 on 12 February.
