PS5 Development Kit features six USB ports, control buttons and resembles leaked prototype

It’s going to be a very long year, but it looks like we’re going to be pretty distracted when it comes to leaks, and Sony is doing a lot to tell us things. Yes, we’re obviously talking about the PlayStation 5, and Sony’s future console is back on the news thanks to an interesting filtered photo. We have the first unofficial view of the PlayStation 5 Developer Kit made available to video game studios around the world thanks to filtration shared by YouTube channel ZONEofTECH.

The photo was apparently taken on Thursday 10 October by the person who provided the information. Above all, it confirms the earlier leak in the patent design that was originally discovered by the Dutch website LetsGoDigital. The image of the patent and that of this design are almost identical.

The filtered image also gives us additional information about the ports and buttons. There seem to be six USB ports, while the buttons include ON/STANDBY, RESET, EJECT, SYSTEM INIT, and NETWORK INIT. Of course, this is a unique model for the development of video games, so the console will look completely different and will be available in stores by the end of 2020.

The V-shaped cooling design is not something we see every day, but in fact, the console will need a lot of cooling power. Sony confirmed that it uses an AMD Zen 2 (7nm) processor with eight cores and sixteen threads and an AMD Radeon Navi for ray tracing accelerated graphics.

As for the specifications, we don’t have anything new, so all the keys we’ve seen so far will be kept, which means PS5 will have them:

  • Next-generation AMD APU with a custom Ryzen processor based on Zen 2, equipped with 8 cores and 16 threads at 1.6GHz-3.2GHz, normal and turbo mode, and a custom Radeon RDNA 2
  • GPU with hardware ray tracing acceleration.
  • 16GB-20GB unified GDDR6 memory (shared as RAM and VRAM) over a 256-bit bus and 4GB DDR4 for system and basic applications.
  • Powerful SSD (more than 2 GB/sec.) that can work as a system cache to speed up loading times and work with large cards and heavy textures.
  • Rumor has it it it will have a high-performance hard drive to reduce costs and avoid space problems.
  • Ventilation system based on the steam chamber.
  • Optical drive with 4K Blu-ray support.
  • Power for new generation games in 4K and 30/60 FPS.

The PS5 hardware includes a custom unit for 3D audio, a custom SSD that is said to be critical to game development for the new console, an Ultra HD Blu-ray optical drive that supports up to 100GB discs and 4K Blu-ray video format, an advanced controller that includes a larger battery, USB Type C connectivity, adaptive triggers, and haptic motors.

We also know that the game’s sleep state consumes far less power than the PlayStation 4.

PlayStation 5 has been confirmed for Christmas next year. We’ll probably know a lot more about it in a few month’s time as Sony could imitate the PlayStation Meeting event that took place to present PlayStation 4 in 2013.

However, there is one interesting detail highlighted in the video, namely that there are some slots in the upper part that seem to be waiting for the placement of some non-slip surfaces, which would make sense if we turned the console upside down, a movement that at first glance even improves the aesthetics of the device.

However, if you don’t like what you see, you probably won’t have to worry, as the final console should have a much faster and more functional design for the public.
