Hopes for Kirin 1020 are still green from TSMC. In recent weeks, we have seen a stricter US regulatory network around Huawei, which has pushed even manufacturers like TSMC to stop receiving orders from Huawei, a message that the Taiwanese manufacturer attributed to a simple lack of production capacity. Given the doubt, Huawei Mate’s next-generation, high-performance processor, the Kirin 1020, was finally guaranteed to produce.
The problem with TSMC seems to be that Huawei still has money in hand and Foxconn has already shown itself willing to take orders from Huawei, basically like anyone else who wants to make money.
For example, TSMC will effectively produce several million 5nm and 12nm chips for Huawei, which could include the Kirin 1020, produced using the most advanced 5nm lithography process. These chips are expected to be delivered by September before the new embargo takes effect, giving Huawei more than enough time to bring Mate 40 to market without storage problems.
