Sony has patented a new cooling system for the PlayStation 5 that not only lowers temperatures but also helps to reduce the annoying noise of the PS4 fans.
A newly discovered Sony patent suggests that the new console will use liquid metal as a solution to cool components. This material would be used at specific points in the PlayStation 5 to reduce the workload of the fans. The patent states that these compartments were sealed with a resin sealed with ultraviolet light to prevent the liquid from leaking at the storage location.
The liquid metal is nothing more than a metallic heat-conducting paste, which can be dangerous if used carelessly, as it is electrically conductive, so it must be placed very carefully. This technology is already well known in the PC world. Asus implements this in its notebook gaming line, and although many still have their doubts about it, the liquid metal can help to lower the system a few degrees.
We haven’t yet received any further details about the console from Sony’s side. Across the street, Microsoft confirmed from Phil Spencer that the Xbox Series X will be as quiet as the Xbox One X and said that they are committed to airing their next console. We’ll see if Sony falls behind in this area.
