Phison introduced its new E18 SSD controller, which is capable of breaking reading records of 7.4 GB/s and is built from the ground up on the 12 nm TSMC node.
Phison’s new PS5018-E18 (E18) PCIe 4.0 controller is now the industry’s fastest NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD solution, following Phison’s previous generation PS5016-E16, which was released in late 2019. In addition, the new Phison E18 SSD controller uses the latest 12 nm TSMC node.
The new Phison E18 is the exclusive SSD controller capable of reading more than 7 GB /s, bringing the data set to 7.4 GB /s and writing to 7 GB /s, with capacities of up to 8 TB and more than 1 million IOPS. Yes, incredible.
Phison delivers fastest PCIe Gen4 controller E18
Chris Kilburn, corporate vice president of AMD, took the opportunity to comment, “AMD is leading the industry with the first desktop processor and chipset support for PCIe 4.0. As we continue to build new platforms that support PCIe 4.0 technologies, we are pleased to see companies like Phison expanding their SSD Gen 4 product offerings.
Kilburn added, “In partnership with industry-leading storage companies like Phison, we are committed to achieving new levels of storage performance across the PC landscape.
KS Pua, CEO of Phison Electronics, said: “While other companies are just beginning to bring their first-generation PCIe Gen 4 products to market, we have a one-and-a-half year head start with our partner AMD. I am very pleased that our next-generation E18 driver will enable our partners to take full advantage of the 4×4 PCIe Gen bandwidth and generate 7.4 GB/s performance for their customers.
While we could compare this to Samsung’s new 980 PRO which achieves 7 GB/s read speed, the drive lags far behind with only 1 TB of storage space. In the meantime, Phison’s new SSD E18 controller will be available in capacities up to 8 TB.
