The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2000 series was recently released and the overclockers showed some impressive performances achieved with the 2990WX flagship chip.
The Threadripper 2000 Series achieves amazing overclocking results
The Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX is a monstrous chip with 32 cores and 64 wires but can be pushed to its limits by liquid nitrogen cooling.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX is overclocked on all cores up to 6 GHz
The Indonesian overclocker Ivan Cupa reached a clock frequency of 5955.4 MHz through the 32 cores and 64 threads of the Threadripper 2990WX. The performance was achieved on an MSI MEG X399 Creation motherboard together with a 1500W Corsair power supply and tons of liquid nitrogen to keep temperatures under control. A CPU voltage of 1.45V has been reported in the Ryzen Master Utility, but we are not sure if this is correct because the CPU-Z and Ryzen Master Utilities report different numbers.
However, this is an amazing performance to achieve such a high frequency over the 32 cores and 64 enabled threads. Besides the world record frequency of 6 GHz, Alva Jonathan aka Lucky_Noob also achieved some record performances with the 2990WX, which was overclocked with 5.4 GHz in the 32 cores. Currently, the chip holds the world record in GPUPI and also the world record in HWBOT x265 benchmark (4K).
It will be some time before Intel launches a processor with so many cores for the mass market (Skylake XCC) that AMD has a decisive advantage in the field of high-performance processors.
