According to a report from China, NVIDIA is preparing to introduce the RTX 3000 series of graphics cards (based on the Ampere GPU) in the third quarter of this year.
NVIDIA RTX 3000, amp GPUs to be released in Q3
The likely date for this introduction could be September-October, as most companies expect the COVID 19 situation to be under control by then. According to the source, graphics card partners have already begun to clean up their inventory of RTX 2000 ‘Turing’ models to make room for the next NVIDIA RTX 3000 series. The price cuts are expected to reach consumers soon.
The Partner Inventory (AIB) cleanup is often a very reliable indicator of upcoming major releases in the graphics card segment. This is because, as NVIDIA partners, they know the schedule for upcoming releases and don’t want to fill their stores with older generation graphics when a new version is already on the market.
The China Times report broadly confirms that NVIDIA will launch the consumer version of its Ampere GPU, the RTX 3000 series, in the third quarter of 2020. The China Times article was removed after publication.
According to the source, NVIDIA will introduce at least three models of graphics cards (probably the RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070), but the exact introduction could be postponed until the first quarter of 2021 with at least one introduction per quarter. The publication also reports that ASUS has massively reduced its inventory in Taiwan and has already implemented spot price reductions with its inventory partners to get rid of excess RTX 2000 graphics.
Since mid-April, GIGABYTE and MSI have also started to do the same, and the effects of this will reach consumers in a few weeks, i.e. lower prices.
