Nvidia graphics coming to phones, thanks to the acquisition of ARM

Just yesterday we informed you that Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, plans to launch his own CPUs in the near future. The news is now that the company wants to license its graphics with ARM, which means that one day we will see processors with integrated graphics from NVIDIA.

In concrete terms, Huang said in a conference call that he plans to use ARM’s relationship as a distribution channel to license a wide range of NVIDIA technologies, including graphics.

“The first obvious thing for us is to make our GPU and architecture available for accelerated computing over ARM’s vast network,” said NVIDIA CEO Huang.

Finally, he added, “I want to offer Nvidia’s technology to all companies that build with ARM. Today’s SoCs do not have the advantage of the incredible GPUs we are building, and Nvidia is known worldwide for the energy efficiency and advanced capabilities of our GPUs.

Nvidia to open a new era of mobile graphics?

NVIDIA follows in the footsteps of AMD, which will introduce it’s RDNA 2. So this could be a revolution in the graphics performance of phones. This news seems to further boost the profitability of the mobile segment, which, as we’ve already seen, is growing exponentially.

However, none of this will be immediate. We may have to wait several months or even more than a year to see Mobile Graphics in action, but it’s logical to think that the company has been planning this for some time.
