Windows 10 is progressively growing its presence to eventually become the world’s number one operating system. Microsoft has just announced that the operating system is now running on more than half of the world’s commercial computers.
The information was given by Frank X. Shaw, communications manager at Microsoft. On the occasion of the publication of the financial results of the group, the man stands at the beginning of a series of tweets which explain that Windows 10 continues to take ground.
“The safest and most productive operating system”
According to Microsoft, Windows 10 is estimated to run on more than half of the world’s commercial computers. The operating system would now expand in companies. It was also noted that 329,000 companies, of which 87 are Fortune 100 companies, use Microsoft software.
On the consumer market, these details have less visibility due to the dominance of Windows 7. Windows 10 continues to grow, but the latest NetMarketShare statistics show that Windows 7 still comes first. It accounts for 40.88% of the market compared to 37.44% for Windows 10.
When Windows 10 came onto the market, Microsoft had the ambition to equip more than a billion devices with Windows 10 within two or three years. Despite undeniable efforts and sometimes very questionable policies, this goal was never achieved.
Windows 10 has the peculiarity that it no longer offers an independent and less scalable operating system. It is considered a service by Microsoft. This service benefits from two major upgrades per year. The latest one called “October 2018 Update” is the cause of an unprecedented disaster in the history of the operating system.
