Microsoft will turn Cortana into the productivity wizard for Windows

Many technology companies have developed their respective virtual personal assistants, including Microsoft and Cortana. But despite Cortana’s experience in this segment, no significant advances have been seen in recent times, so rival companies have been able to outperform Cortana in terms of end consumers.

Microsoft will turn Cortana into the productivity wizard for Windows

As Windows Central has learned, Microsoft is changing its strategy with respect to Cortana, leaving behind the vision of serving as a virtual personal assistant to serve as a productivity assistant within Windows.

This change of paradigm in Cortana will mean that Cortana will no longer limit itself to results through Windows Searches, where it will no longer offer news or calendar appointments, among other things that are clearly useless to users, but will also be the main access route through the system tray, providing interactions with the user through chat-like text messages, an experience that Microsoft calls “conversational canvas”.

Even so, users will be able to interact with Cortana if they still want to, but now the chat experience, preferred by users, will prevail. In addition, Cortana will act as a task and notification manager, and even now it will be Cortana that will be integrated into the functions that are launched in Windows as standalone instead of increasing their skills.

With this, the functions can be available globally, even in all markets where Cortana is not present. The publication states that Cortana will continue to have skills, enabling control of connected devices, for example, but will now focus on productivity in Windows rather than being an assistant focused on end users.
