Just a few days ago we announced that Microsoft might be considering the purchase of GitHub, the popular developer platform. Now, as they echo from Bloomberg, everything seems to indicate that Microsoft has finally taken a step forward and bought GitHub.
According to the prestigious publication, Microsoft would announce the purchase of the company today, so we will remain vigilant until we know the official details. At the moment we still don’t know how much Microsoft has paid for GitHub, which was valued at $2 billion in 2015. Given GitHub’s privileged position in the development world, it would come as no surprise if the agreed figure were higher.
Apparently, one of the reasons that would have motivated the GitHub management team to accept the purchase offer is the trajectory of its new CEO Satya Nadella, who over the last few years has shown a greater interest in the world of open-source, having even launched several projects at GitHub.
Without a doubt, this is a very important move for the entire GitHub team, which has a community of more than 27 million developers working on 80 million code repositories.
