L’Oreal sensor tells you if you have spent too much time exposed to radiation that endangers your skin. During the CES of Las Vegas, the personal care company L’Oreal has presented a unique product that you can “dress.” It is one of the smallest UV sensors that we have seen and that sticks directly on a fingernail.

The UV Sense sensor can measure how long you’ve been outdoors, measuring the amount of time you’ve been exposed to ultraviolet radiation. It measures 9 millimeters in diameter and barely 2 millimeters thick. The weight is minimal, although it contains several sensors inside.

It is a sensor in its purest definition of the word. Since it does not connect directly to your smartphone as other products, such as smartwatches, could do.

The mobile application that L’Oreal has launched is capable of scanning the information that the sensor collects. That combines it with the position and movement data that your mobile already obtains on its own.

By joining the data, the application can tell you if you have spent too much time exposed to radiation. Also, that shows graphs and information about your exposure. That could be dangerous for your skin.

The sensor sticks using a little adhesive, which can be changed since the intention is that it can be removed and also combined with nail polish.

It is not the first time that they try to create accessories of this type, although without much success. For example, a decade ago there were bracelets like SolarSafe that already announced the amount of exposure to UV radiation. More recently, Netatmo tried it in June, but it is clear that what failed was the size and that it did not give more use. UV Sense has the benefit of its tiny size.

L’Oreal UV Sense will go on sale this summer for a price that would be around 45 euros, as confirmed by The Verge.
