The iPhone X has been on the market since November 2017. While Apple wants developers to optimize their apps for the borderless display, the company itself still has some work to do so. Yesterday Apple just submitted another update for one of its own apps. The “iTunes Remote” application is now available in version 4.4 and comes with support for iPhone X and a new design.
Apple’s iTunes Remote application is a handy tool for iPhone and iPad users. The app not only allows access to the iTunes library but also allows you to easily control music playback within your own four walls. You can also browse the library for movies, series, podcasts, playlists, and more. Another special feature is the ability to play music from your Mac via AirPlay speakers without having to sit on your Mac.
AirPlay speakers can also be grouped there so that synchronized playback takes place on all selected devices – even in other rooms. This works not only with AirPlay-2 compatible devices but with all AirPlay devices. AirPlay 2, on the other hand, is mandatory for multi-room playback via the music app integrated with iOS.
Besides the adaptation to the Super Retina display of the iPhone X, Apple also adapted the design of the app. This fits much better into the system and is reminiscent of an old version of the music app. This is not a bad thing but provides a good overview and quick access to the desired media files. The fact that the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen can be individually adjusted is also very nice – a feature that we also wish for the current music app.
However, with version 4.4, Apple recommends that your Mac has iTunes 12.7.5 or higher installed to ensure a stable connection.
