With two different sizes, new colors, more speed, camera enhancements and better prices, that’s all we know about iPhone XS, which will be presented on September 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater at the new Apple Campus in Cupertino.
Apple is only a few days away from introducing the next generation of its smartphones and thanks to filtering on the company’s website it was possible to know that they will simply be called iPhone XS. The announcement will be made on September 12th at the Steve Jobs Theatre and hypertext will be there to tell the story live; as that day comes, that’s all we know about the new phones.
iPhone XS: Shape and size
Dozens of leaks have confirmed that the next iPhone comes in two screen sizes: 5.8 and 6.5 inches, and like the iPhone X, they will use OLED screen.
The 5.8″ iPhone XS retains the same resolution as the current generation: 2435×1125 with 458 pixels per inch.
The 6.5-inch iPhone XS would have a resolution of 1242×2588 if the 458 pixels per inch were maintained, which would be logical for production.
The 6.5-inch iPhone XS supports landscape modes such as iPhone 6 Plus, 6S Plus and 7 Plus, with new features for opening two apps simultaneously, like an iPad.
As far as design is concerned, everything indicates that there are no significant changes: the notch, the rounded shape of the corners and the absence of edges are retained.
We have mentioned the existence of three sizes for months, the third will not be an iPhone XS, but a cheaper version with LCD screen and several colors with a size of 6.1 inches.
iPhone XS, no plus
Confirming the name, iPhone XS, comes with the novelty, after a Bloomberg report that the company will put aside the use of the word plus to describe larger models of the same smartphone.
They will simply 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhone XS, as is currently the case with the iPad Pro, which comes in two sizes, 9.7-inch and 10.5-inch.
Improved camera performance
Several reports and rumors suggest that Apple would introduce a three-lens camera in 2018, but leaks in the production line indicate that this will not happen this year to be one of the innovations of 2019.
Still, the same Bloomberg report mentioned above shows that the company is making strong improvements to the overall performance of the camera, although they are not detailing what aspects.
Since an essential part of the operation of the iPhone camera lies in the software, leaks are much less, if any, than in the software. You have to wait until September 12th to know what to expect.
Processor Performance: the new A12 chip
The A12 chip of only seven nanometers is expected to increase energy efficiency, significantly increase performance and take up less space in the device.
As was seen at WWDC 2018, Apple’s focus is on performance, not only on old computers, but also on new and future computers, so iPhone XS will feature significant speed improvements.
It is not directly related to the A12, but reports have shown that by adding copper to the induction coil, the new iPhone can also charge faster.
By the way, the A12 chip will most likely also reach the new iPad Pro, which is also expected to be announced on September 12.
iPhone XS Color shades
iPhone XS is available in two sizes and three colors:
- Space Grey
- Silver
- Gold
We learned about the new color of the images on the Apple website that were filtered and published by 9to5mac. On the pictures, you can see the two new models with stainless steel edges in gold color.
Don’t confuse these three colors with the new colors offered on the cheaper iPhone, which Apple also plans to launch on September 12.
iPhone XS Pricing
Good news for those who want to buy an iPhone this year, several reports suggest that Apple will follow a somewhat more aggressive strategy for selling its smartphones this year, which will slightly lower the price of the new iPhone XS:
- iPhone XS 5.8 Inch: From $899
- iPhone XS 6.5 Inch: From $999
Consumers who are interested in a slightly cheaper device can buy the new, cheaper iPhone, which will have the same shape as the iPhone XS, but with an LCD screen that analysts say will cost $699.
iPhone XS with 3.5mm jack, USB-C and Dual-SIM adapter
Rumors from several independent reports suggest that Apple will offer iPhone XS at least in some countries with dual SIM support, i.e. you can install two SIM cards simultaneously, although some point out that they will actually have an Apple SIM in their internal components, as is the case with the iPad.
The advantage of Apple SIM is that you can select the operator yourself from the operating system without having to change the phone card and pay directly there.
On the other hand, the included flash cable is probably USB-C and the charger this year, apart from the traditional USB-A connector. Finally, with the popularization of AirPods and other wireless headsets, Apple can no longer include the 3.5mm adapter.
