Yesterday the second beta of iOS 12 was released and while both the first and second preview versions of the next operating system for iPhone and iPad initially caused few problems, the picture is now deceptive. According to some users of the beta versions, language assistant Siri is supposed to struggle with severe connection problems, so that this rarely works or not at all. Curiously, this also applies to the HomePod.
iOS 12 Beta 2: Siri causes problems – also on the HomePod
No matter on which device one of Apple’s recently released beta versions is installed – the image is the same everywhere. Siri still reacts to “Hey Siri”, but then that was often it. The language assistant then answers “One moment please”, “I’ve got it now” and finally ended up with “Sorry, I’m having trouble understanding you”. There seems to be a deeper connection problem. Despite the lack of beta, even the HomePod seems to be affected when iOS devices with new betas are on the network.
In this case, checking your Internet connection or WLAN connection does not help much. Even restarting the router, the iOS device or resetting the HomePod do not change this situation. This currently only affects beta users. Official versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS have no problems.
Of course, beta users have to deal with major and minor bugs over and over again, but this problem is still strange, as it also affects the HomePod, for which no beta is available and which runs on a stable public software version. According to the Apple status page, there is also officially no problem with Siri. However, there were some minor issues yesterday with iMessage, iCloud Calendar, iCloud contacts, iCloud Mail and the iCloud Drive that have now been resolved. Whether the Siri problems are related to this can be speculated. New updates may already be able to fix the problem with the Language Assistant.
