Intel announced its next Z390 chipset official by publishing the full specifications on its official site. The Intel Z390 chipset has been rumored since last year as a successor to the popular Intel Z370 chipset, but it appears that both share the same features with only a few add-ons that were also integrated into the 300 series chipsets (H370, B360, Q370, H310).
Intel Z390: Wireless AC, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB 3.1 Gen2 connectivity
- Intel Wireless-AC 802.11 AC and Bluetooth 5.0
- Intel Wireless AC Adapter
- Up to 6 USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports
The Intel Z390 PCH block diagram shows two exciting things. The Intel Z390 chipset is not a big jump on the Z370 chipset. Secondly, the chipset has brought the same set of features that were recently released on the entry-level motherboards but was not on the Z370 lacquers that were released last year.
On Z370 motherboards, manufacturers who want to offer these features have to rely on third-party controllers, which increases costs. The Z390 chipset motherboards will have solutions that will make use of the chipset whenever all its features save costs, while the high-end motherboards can still opt for third-party controllers to offer better capabilities.
Intel’s chipset is released near the AMD Z490, which would be offering higher I/O capabilities than current X470 motherboards. We expect the first motherboards to appear on the Computex 2018.
