Analysts say Intel faces at least 5 years of unattainable lag from TSMC

The successive delays surrounding the introduction of the 10 nm at Intel are driving analysts to become pessimistic. According to the analysts, the processor giant would be technologically lagging behind the TSMC that it would be impossible to catch up anymore.

These statements were made in an interview with Chris Caso, an analyst at Raymond James. From Chris Caso’s point of view, Intel’s numerous challenges in mastering the 10 nm engraving could have negative consequences. Intel is likely to lag behind the competition, especially against TSMC. In a note to investors, the analyst pointed out that:

“Delays of 10 nm create a window for competitors, and this window will never close again.”

Intel and the 10 nm, the competition is on the rise

Intel has actually lagged behind TSMC, which is in the final phase of deployment of 7 nm.

According to Chris Caso, if Intel goes from 10 nm to 7 nm, TSMC and Samsung will work at 5 or 3 nm. This pessimistic assessment is shared by Rosenblatt Securities, which has led to an even darker report on Intel. The report was released at the end of August and announces that Intel could lag 5, 6 or even 7 years behind its competitors.

AMD is expected to launch its first 7nm processors for computers in spring 2019, and Intel would do so by the end of the year with the 10th generation if everything goes as planned. This would ensure Intel continues to deliver the best gaming performance, but they will be half a year late over AMD, and AMD will continue to improve, especially if they maintain low-cost processors. If AMD succeeds in increasing the IPC and the frequency of its chips, Intel would face a serious problem.
