Intel Core “Raptor Lake” will have up to 24 cores and would be launched in 2022. We have very interesting detail about Intel’s next two generations of processors, the Alder Lake and Raptor Lake.
The Alder Lake and Raptor Lake processors are part of the 12th and 13th generation Core processors, which will use the LGA 1700 socket. The new information is revealed by Moore’s Law is Dead, where we can see some leaked slides about Alder Lake and Alder Lake HX processors, as well as an announcement and release schedule.
It’s also surprising to see a slide about Raptor Lake, which seems to point to a 2022 launch
The S1 and S2 desktop models will have a hybrid configuration that combines large and small cores. The first S1 variant will consist of 8 powerful Golden Cove cores and 8 Gracemont threads designed for efficiency. The S2 variant will have 6 Golden Cove cores, but will not use small cores.
The notebooks are a different story, like the P1 and P2 variants will offer 8 Golden Cove cores and 6 Gracemont cores for the P1 model, but the P2 model will have 8 Golden Cove cores and 2 Gracemont cores.
Intel will lift the information embargo on these processors on Oct. 25, the slide said. The intention would be to launch the K models first.
Finally, there is mention of an HX series for high-performance notebooks. These processors are expected to appear in Q2 2022, months after the launch of Alder Lake chips for desktop with 45W and 65W TDP variants.
Raptor Lake processors will be the successors of Alder Lake and will use the same LGA 1700 socket. Here, a change is made to the cores. It is revealed that it will have new cores called Raptor Cove, which will replace the Golden Cove cores. However, Intel will continue to use the efficiency-focused Gracemont cores, but in larger numbers.
So a Raptor Lake processor could have up to 8 Raptor Cove cores and 16 Gracemont cores, for a total of 24 cores and 32 threads, since the Gracemeont cores do not use HyperThreading technology.
Intel seems to have everything very well in hand for the next two generations of Intel Core CPUs.
