Intel Gemini Lake: 14nm node will be receiving clock speed increase

Intel’s Gemini Lake platform is mainly based on laptops and low-power systems. Simply put, it’s the simplest line of Intel chips.

In a report of TechPowerUp, Intel seems to be ready to release the latest Gemini update already in November this year, although there is often not much fanfare around this rather “simple” end of the market. So we are on the eve of a new “refresh” of this series.

What will be new in Intel Gemini Lake refresh?

Now everyone will wonder what’s new in this update. Well, it should be noted that the series will continue to use the 14 nm process and there doesn’t seem to be any changes at the architectural level. The update has more to do with increasing the clock speed of the entire series, which will generally offer higher performance.

For example, the Pentium Silver J5040 has a 2.00 GHz/3.20 GHz boost clock. This offers a fairly significant improvement over the previous J5005, which has a 1.50 GHz/2.80 GHz clock. We are talking about an improvement between 400 and 500 MHz.

As “simple” 2- and 4-core processors, you can’t expect much from them. As a proxy, it might explain why Intel doesn’t spread the red carpet for them either. However, when it comes to upcoming basic versions of systems and laptops, the new upgrade from Gemini Lake will mean a solid performance boost.

They are expected to arrive within the next month. If you’re expecting a cheap PC or laptop from the Basic range, it might be worth keeping an eye on the retail stores over the next month as we’ll probably be able to get a refurbished PC or laptop for the same money as the existing Gemini platform. We will keep you updated.
