Intel boasts unreliable Core i9-9900K tests against AMD Ryzen Threadripps

Intel showed the 9th generation Core this week. The new line of processors includes Core i9-9900K and Core i9-9980XE chipsets. The CPU market giant has partnered with Principled Technologies to compare new Intel and AMD chipsets. Unfortunately, Ryzen, including Threadripper 2990WX, 2950X and Ryzen 7 2700X have not been presented well in these tests.

In the case of Ryzenes, results with XMP turned off were taken into account, resulting in a 5-15% reduction in efficiency. In addition, all tests were conducted in 1080p quality on the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, where Ryzens does not give the best. Principled Technologies has also introduced the Ryzen mode in the AMD Ryzen Master Tool, which is not recommended by the company to use others besides threadrippers.

Principled Technologies also used a non-optimal memory configuration on the Ryzen 7 2700X test machine, which consisted of only two RAM modules, while on the Intel CPU all four slots on the motherboard were filled. In addition, a lower RAM clock (2933 MHz) and high timings were set, which also prevented Ryzen from spreading its wings. This was explained by concerns about the stability of the test platform. However, this was not the case with the i9-9900K processor, which worked not only with overclocked DDR4-3000 memories but also with lower clocking, giving it a significant competitive advantage.

All these modifications naturally had an effect on the test results. The differences are best seen in Assassin’s Creed Origins, where the Intel processor showed 36% more performance compared to its competition, while Ryzen’s 7 2700X showed about 8%. Below are some of the results of tests conducted on both CPUs.

All this meant that AMD processors were worse off compared to Core i9 than in reality. Intel has already made a statement on this issue. You’ll find it below.

We greatly appreciate the work of the review community and expect other tests to continue to prove that the Intel Core i9-9900K 9th generation processor is the best gaming chip in the world in the coming weeks. PT conducted initial tests with systems running with specifications configured to display CPU performance and released the configurations used. The data is consistent with what we have seen in our labs and we look forward to the results of additional testing that will be available in the coming weeks. – Intel
