iMac 2020: the new Mac generation uses an i9-10910 CPU

In spite of the fact that Apple did not show a new iMac 2020 at WWDC, it seems that the company is still preparing for the launch of a new all-in-one product from Intel. Details of Apple’s new desktop computer have appeared on Geekbench and seem to confirm that the iMac 2020 will not use an ARM-based CPU.

Filtration shows that the 2020 iMac processor is a 20-threaded 10-core Intel Core 10910 with a basic clock speed of 3.6GHz and an incremental clock speed of 4.7GHz, suggesting that the Core i9-10910 is essentially a higher-clocked version of the Core i9-10900.

None of these parts are on Intel’s website, so it is likely that it is a “special” 95W part designed exclusively for Apple, especially since Intel does not currently have a 95W Core i9 processor in its Comet Lake S series.

The listing also includes details about an unannounced AMD Radeon Pro 5300 graphics card, which appears to be a desktop version of the Radeon Pro 5300M, which is inside the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

According to the Geekbench list, the so-called Radeon Pro 5300 has 4 GB VRAM, 20 computing units and a clock rate of 1.65 GHz. There are no details about the GPU memory, but it is likely that the Radeon Pro 5300 offers the same 12 Gbps GDDR6 memory as its laptop counterpart.

The iMac 2020 is also likely to undergo a major redesign. Rumour has it that the desktop device, which hasn’t been upgraded since March 2019, will have Pro display frames and an all-new 23-inch display, which Apple will introduce in the same case size as the existing 21.5-inch.

Finally, Apple is expected to abandon the mechanical disk format forever in favor of SSD technology.
