Huawei MateBook 16 announced with Ryzen 5000H and 7000H

The MateBook 16 was one of the products recently unveiled at the Huawei All Scenario Smart Product Launch Conference in China. Maybe the company is not very good at choosing names for events, but it knows how to launch good notebooks. Like its predecessor, it features a 16-inch IPS display, but with an increased resolution of up to 2.5K and 300 nits at 100% sRGB color space.

The Huawei MateBook 16 is powered by a high-performance AMD Ryzen 5 5600H processor with 7-nanometer Zen 3 architecture. With this new processor, IPC performance increases by 19% compared to the previous generation. Besides that, the frequency improvement easily increases the single-core and multi-core performance by more than 20%.

Another version of the MateBook 16 model is equipped with the Ryzen 7 5800H processor instead. This high-end CPU has 8 16-thread cores with a frequency throttling of up to 4.4 GHz. Both models have 16 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi 6, and a fingerprint reader on the power button.

The default TDP in terms of power consumption is 45W, but the company has managed to optimize the system to improve it. At the high performance, the TDP can reach 54W. In this case, an AMD Radeon Vega is used as the integrated graphics card.

The notebook is cooled by two large fans and an innovative cooling system with a high-density hinge design. This allows air to flow out and in simultaneously. A shark fin heat sink and 2mm heat pipes are used to dissipate heat.

The large 84-watt battery promises around 12 hours of continuous multimedia use. When used for gaming, the runtime drops even more drastically, of course. The USB-C fast charger offers 135 watts and is compatible with every smartphone from Huawei and other brands. It automatically shuts down if it overheats during charging.

Finally, in the software section, we find Windows 10 as the default operating system. From Huawei comes the Huawei Share program, which combines the Windows system with Android for a connected experience with up to 3 devices. This allows you to use multi-screens, transfer files, manage your phone from your PC, and other options.

The MateBook 16 with Ryzen 5 5600H/16GB of RAM and 512GB NVMe SSD is available in China for £803. The model with Ryzen 7 5800H and otherwise the same equipment costs a bit more at 867 Euros.
