Users of the HTC Vive Virtual Reality glasses will finally enjoy a completely comfortable and wireless experience thanks to the new wireless adapter that was specially developed for this gadget that the manufacturer has launched on the market today.
This adapter was first introduced at CES 2018 and works with the HTC Vive as with the Pro version of the VR glasses, with users of the latter version having to pay an additional $65 for a compatibility package.
One of the negative points of this adapter is its price: US$ 300, but HTC expects 90 percent of VR glasses customers who do not want to use cables with this product to be addressed.
Vive Wireless uses Intel’s WiGig Wireless standard, which offers a dedicated 60 GHz transmission band with a range of 6 meters and a field of view of 150 degrees. In addition, the adapter comes with a DisplayLink XR codec which, according to the company, prevents high latency times and offers high performance with a longer battery life of the device.
Paul Brown, Vive en Europa Brand Manager, said that since the introduction of VR glasses, the company has been exploring how to deliver a world-class wireless virtual reality experience, and that today’s launch is an answer to partners’ suggestions and users’ wishes.
As we mentioned earlier, the cost of Vive Wireless will be $300 and will be available from September 5th. To justify payment, HTC has decided to include a two-month Viveport subscription for those who wish to reserve the adapter. This subscription gives you access to nearly 500 titles, including the popular Seeking Dawn.
