From the aeroplane or the exhibit in the glass box, the cool decoration in the shop window – sometimes there is a pane of glass between the photographer and the subject he wants to photograph. And in the worst case, this can cause annoying reflections or even stains on the photo if the window is dirty. With a few measures, however, good pictures can also be made through the glass.
First, it is worth trying to clean the window with a clean handkerchief to remove stains and other disturbing elements. Caution: If you want to photograph through a glass box in the museum, make sure that the glass is not provided with an anti-theft device before cleaning! Otherwise, you may trigger an alarm. If possible, equip your camera with a lens hood to prevent reflections.
Alternatively, you can also carefully place the lens on the glass. This stabilizes the camera in case you have to work with longer exposure times. If it is necessary to tilt the camera for a better perspective, be careful not to create new reflections. And don’t use the flash at all!
