HoloLens 3 would have a boundless FOV (Infinite Field of View) as reported in the Microsoft patent

Microsoft’s new patent shows that the next HoloLens will be equipped with a “boundless field of view,” which means that mixed reality glasses could change reality in its true form. A small screen is set for movement directly in front of the retina, which would generate the FOV in real terms as we actually see it with our naked eyes. This technology would certainly be a breakthrough in mixed reality technology. And this technology could be adopted for the future Hololens generation, could be called Hololens 3.

The patent application, published by the U.S. National Patent Office and published on the Patently Mobile website, describes a Microsoft device with an “unlimited field of view” that would not only interact with holograms such as the newly introduced HoloLens 2, but would replace the waves and lasers with a simple rotating terminal that could restore a 90 degree field of view.

Which means a much larger field of view and even without any restrictions for change in reality, allowing a more immersive and “real” experience, which is certainly trickier not only for the user of HoloLens with mixed reality, but also for people in the manufacturing team as they emphasize in the document.

Would it be HoloLens 3?

We are not sure if this new unlimited FOV technology will be implemented in Hololens 3 or not, but the future assumes that the hypothesis is true. If this is the case, the new HMD would be an almost perfect device for mixed reality experiences.

Once this Microsoft idea is carried out, it would be very interesting to see how the company will design this device that has small vents that rotate near the retina. Although at the moment the company assumes that the screen can be used at a distance of 4 inches to 0 inches in front of the eyes.

Recently, Microsoft announced its HoloLens 2, the glasses with mixed reality that rectifies some requirements of the users compared to the previous model with a much wider field of view. Moreover, these glasses are equipped with optimized “holograms” in the software for the HoloLens, creating a completely new language of “instinctive interaction”.

The next generation HMD device, based on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology, is similar to today’s HoloLens, but with greater visibility. This would certainly attract the attention of users who are currently showing great interest in devices using these technologies.
