Remember when 343 Industries and Microsoft presented Halo Infinite as a revolutionary success, a necessary reinvention for the iconic shooter and a rival to Call of Duty on Xbox? Less than two years later, the numbers speak for themselves and indicate quite the opposite.
After a promising start, Halo Infinite has experienced a rapid and noticeable decline in popularity, leaving players frustrated by the lack of significant updates and excuses on the part of 343 Industries, the game’s developer.
With all the challenges the game has faced, Fans of Halo Infinite on Steam have pretty much lost all hope, as the number of players has dropped by 98% since launch.
Halo Infinite is running out of players on Steam.
Halo Infinite’s launch figures were promising, with a peak of 272,586 players. However, apost on Reddit revealed a drastic drop to just 5,732 players. As of this writing, there are 5,593 players enjoying the game, according to SteamDB.
This means that there are more active players in titles like STAR WARS: The Old Republic and Portal 2, released more than 10 years ago, than in the latest game in the Halo franchise, despite its multiplayer mode being free to download.
While Halo Infinite enjoys remarkable popularity on Xbox, the absence of official information on player numbers from Microsoft precludes absolute certainty about its true reach.
