Google proves that AMOLED smartphones consume much less power than LCD in dark themes. We’ll have 60 percent more battery life for AMOLED screen smartphones. During the Android Dev Summit or this year’s Android Developer Conference, Google has announced a number of new features and functions that will be implemented by the new Android version, which will be called Android Q.
Android’s another interesting announcement comes today, and it’s a feature that many will welcome because of the shocking facts. According to Google, the battery’s performance in smartphones equipped with AMOLED screens can be improved if we don’t use white themes.
Google proves less battery consumption in dark themes on AMOLED display smartphones
Google carried out an experiment in which it compared the battery consumption of a pixel, contains a screen AMOLED, in front of an iPhone 7 whose screen is LCD, where Google Maps was presented in normal theme and in night mode.
The first of them received 250mAh while the iPhone consumed 230mAh, with the brightness level at maximum. In night mode, the pixel consumed only 92 mAh and the iPhone consumes the same 230 mAh.
As we can see, the batteries of AMOLED devices are strongly affected by the use of brightness, a feature that is set to its maximum value when clear subjects are used, as there is a linear dependency where the consumption increases proportionally according to brightness…….

60% reduction with dark mode on
According to Google, that happens with all smartphones that have an AMOLED screen, but there’s good news, and this is the fact that the dark mode helps to reduce battery consumption by more than 60%.
But it’s not just dark themes or white color that needs to be considered, because, as the company has revealed today that other colors also change the picture. As with the blue color, which tends to consume up to 30% energy, while the green color has a lower consumption, followed by the red color.
