Google A65: AR goggles to be used in response to Microsoft HoloLens

Google A65 is the code name for the new AR goggles being developed by the giant. The glasses are based on ARM architecture and will be autonomous. They are supposed to be a response to such equipment as HoloLens from Microsoft. Google A65 Goggles are at an early stage of development and this does not herald an imminent launch.

Google A65, as reported by the German Winfuture.de service, are new glasses for the extended reality, which are being developed by specialists from Mountain View. What can we expect from this equipment? Certainly not an imminent premiere, because the work is said to be at an early stage.

Google A65 are ARM-based glasses, which means they’re autonomous and don’t require a computer or phone to operate. The heart of the glasses is the specialized Qualcomm processor. This is probably Snapdragon 603 or Snapdragon 605, the exact technical specifications of which are still secret.

Well, it might not shock many of you, but it seems that Google is working on an augmented reality helmet after a leak that says surprisingly much…

Indeed, a report details what could be the company’s future AR headset two processors could be chosen for the final product:
Qualcomm QCS603 designed for objects connected with two A-75 to 1.67 GHz cortex cores and two A-55 to 1.7Ghz cores, Adreno 615 graphics chip

Or the Qualcomm QCS605, more powerful with 2.5Ghz and 1.7Ghz cores.

Of course, there are all the usual connectivity options (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS but also 4G LTE) and the headset should not require a PC or smartphone. Google would have started work on the helmet earlier this year and would be in discussion with partners like Quanta, a Taiwanese company, which would already be working with Meta on a device named “A66”, which could be more high-end put require a PC.

As a reminder, Microsoft has already announced to be at work on the HoloLens. Magic Leap plans to release their augmented reality glasses “soon” and Apple should, according to rumors, release a helmet by 2019 / 2020. That makes them devices under development, though.
