GeForce GTX 1180, Nvidia Expects 50% Performance Boost at $699?

Nvidia is expected to renew its high-end graphics card offering this year. There was a lot of contradictory information on this issue, but in all cases, the Turing and Ampere architectures were cited.

While the GeForce GTX 2000 series announced for the GTC 2018 is now closed, the GeForce GTX 1100 series has taken over. These solutions would be in the Nvidia roadmap with a scheduled release in a few months.

GeForce GTX 1180, specifications?
A mysterious picture of the features of the showcase, the GeForce GTX 1180 appeared a week ago. You will find it at the end of the article. Data are from HKEPC.

The GeForce GTX 1180 would carry a GPU from a 12nm burn. Its name would be known; it would be the GT104, a small beast of 400 mm2 giving life to 3584 CUDA Core, 224 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. We would be faced with a better solution than the current GTX 1080 and its 2560 CUDA Cores, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs.

With such a mechanism Nvidia would expect a frequency identical to that of the GTX 1080, i.e., about 1600 MHz. The boost mode would gain a few MHz with a change from 1733 MHz to 1800 MHz. The power (FP32) would increase from 7.8 to 13 TFLOPS. The card could have 8 or 16 GB of GDDR6 (16 Gbps) operated by a 256-bit memory controller.

If these data are to be confirmed, they have the merit of bringing a certain coherence to the offer. This GTX 1180 would propose an apparent increase in performance while having energy needs not too far from those of the GTX 1080… On the consumption side precisely the thermal envelope would be between 170 and 200 Watts.

As far as the launch date is concerned, the case could take place during the summer, specifically in July.

Finally, on the price issue, the question is interesting. The graphics card market could give Nvidia some bad ideas, but it wouldn’t be. The price would be at 699 dollars is that of the GTX 1080 Founders Edition with its announcement.
