At the end of last month, confirmation was given of the arrival of the GTX 1060 graphics cards in a new variant with GDDR5X, in the apparent attempt to stop the RX 590, but the doubt was whether this graphics card would use a new GPU, which has been finally confirmed.
Basically, Nvidia used the identical core of the GTX 1080 but trimmed it with much fewer CUDA cores enabled for the GTX 1060. In other words, NVIDIA has found a way to sell chips with only half of the GPU’s cores under the GTX 1060 brand. This way, they could more easily customize the new GDDR5X memory.
Interestingly, even the SLI port remains on this card, which poses a big question: Will it work? Most likely not, but we’re not 100% sure without official confirmation.
Specifically, the card in question visible in the picture is the iGame GTX 1060 U-TOP V2, which includes a cooling solution with three fans, two 8-pin power connectors, and an 8+2 phase design. The latter also attracts our attention, the use of two 8-pin connectors for a mid-range graphics card like the GTX 1060 seems exaggerated at least for this model.
