Intel’s flagship workstation CPU has arrived. It is the new Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids-WS, which will support the LGA-4677 socket. The motherboards that will support these processors will feature the W790 chipset.

As per the leaked slides, this series will consist of 7 models. The Intel Xeon W93495X is the most powerful of them all, with a total of 56 cores and will cost $5889, while the cheapest part is the Intel Xeon W5-3425, which will cost around $1189.

These series are divided into the W-3400 and the W-2400, both with support for 8-channel or 4-channel DDR5-4800 memory (octa-channel or quad-channel). In addition, the high-end segment will have a TDP between 270W and 350W, while the low-end W-2400 models will have a TDP between 165W and 225W.

The Intel Xeon processors W9-3495X have 56 cores and maximum boost clocks of up to 4.8 GHz. It is worth noting that this SKU and the other “X” models are all unlocked for overclocking.

The Intel Xeon processor W9-3495X has 112 PCIe lanes and supports 8 DDR5-4800 memory modules with a total capacity of up to 4 TB. The other series are offered in configurations with 36, 28, 24, 20, 16 and even 12 cores. Prices start at around $1189, as mentioned above.

Of course, all feature HyperThreading, so each physical core can process up to two threads simultaneously. Thus, the specs range from 24 simultaneous threads at the low end to 112 simultaneous threads at the high end.

The good news is that the processors in this series will be much cheaper, starting at $359, but more on that later. These lower prices are for the W3-2423 with 6 cores and 12 threads and a turbo mode of up to 4.2 GHz. But not only does this series have fewer cores, it’s also worth noting that the Intel Xeon W3 series is only limited to DDR4-4400 memory.
