Finally, the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor for watches

We have got the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor information. Two years ago we received the Snapdragon Wear 3100 for intelligent watches. We expected a lot, but not much has changed. Although the company presented better energy savings in a special limited mode, there was no significant change. The watch still does not have enough power and consumption has not been improved in any extreme way. After two years, we have a successor that brings significant improvements. There are even two models in the world – Snapdragon Wear 4100 and Snapdragon Wear 4100+.

Although the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor is based on Cortex A53 cores from 2012, 12nm technology was used for production. Four 1.7 GHz cores are available and the Dual Qualcomm Hexagon QDSP6 v56 is used for further data processing. The graphics are provided by Adreno 504 with a frequency of up to 320 MHz and are supported by Open GL ES 3.1. Displays with a resolution of up to Full HD at 30 frames per second are supported.

In terms of connectivity, there are Bluetooth 5.0, 8 02.11a / b / g / n (2.4GHz), USB 2.0, NFC and GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo technologies. There is also an X5 modem with support for LTE FDD, LTE TDD, 1x Adv, EV-DO Rev. A, TD-SCDMA, and GSM / EDGE.

In comparison to the Wear 3100, the performance has increased by 85%, the memory is also much faster and the graphics reach 2.5 times the performance. There is even better camera support with a maximum resolution of 16 MPx. A 25% reduction in power consumption ought to be offered.

All these parameters are common to both Snapdragon Wear 4100 and Snapdragon Wear 4100+, but the latter also has a special Cortex M0 coprocessor (QCCC1110) for processing light operations, suitable for displaying and capturing data.

However, the special energy-saving mode has also been improved. The original only offered 16 colors and time display, the new model can already process 64,000 colors, data processing from sensors (and heart rate monitor), battery status display, alarms, comments.

The first company to offer a watch with the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor has already signed up. It will be Mobvoi which will soon introduce the new Ticwatch model. Unfortunately, the better Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor will not be used.
