Facebook has long ago banned advertisements related to the sale of weapons but now takes a step further with the new update of its advertising policy.
It now focuses its attention on advertisements for gun accessories (covers, optics, flashlights, etc.), placing a restriction on advertisers seeking to promote them on the platform. Advertisers will have to restrict their audience, as they will not be able to show this type of advertising to children under the age of 18.
This new policy will enter into force on 21 June. And to avoid misunderstandings, Facebook has specified a number of examples on its Privacy Policy page:
The guidelines are very specific, and allow no exceptions, even for accessories that some might label as entertainment. Facebook ensures that it will work with advertisers who may be affected by this new measure to ensure that they implement the appropriate changes.
On the other hand, this new policy does not affect blogs or Facebook pages that open debate on this type of issue or connect users with these common interests, as long as they do not promote the use or sale of weapons.
Facebook’s policies have been under the microscope in recent months, so it seems to be focusing on different issues, so as not to leave any controversial points out of control.
